Governor urged to challenge inadequate posting of corps members to Kebbi

The authority of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Kebbi State has called on the State government to rise up and challenge the inadequate deployment of Youths Corps Members to the State every service season.

The State Coordinator of the scheme, Alhaji Bala Dabo Kagarko made this appeal to the State government in an interview with The Eagle Online after the swearing-in ceremony of 452 Corps Members posted to the State for the 2026 Batch “B’ stream 1 Service year.

He described it as disheartening to see Kebbi State with 21 LGAs receiving deployment of this number of Corps Members which according to him is grossly inadequate.

He, therefore, urged the State government to take the issue up with NYSC Headquarters.

According to him, the number of Corps Members deployed to the State has drastically reduced in recent time, pointing out that Kebbi is among the States that received the least number of Corps members.

“We have made several attempts to make sure the State government do the needful to get enough Corps Members to serve in the State through writing, dialogue but to no avail.

“Shortage of Corps Members is not only affecting the Education sector, it affects the health sector more as the State hardly receives up to five Corps Members medical personnel to cover areas like medicine, pharmacy, Nursing Lab. Sciences etc,” he said.

The State Coordinator further noted that a request has been forwarded to the State government to relocate the present NYSC temporary Orientation Camp to Birnin-Kebbi metropolis, adding that the village where the Camp is now is an outcast area.

He noted that the trend of insecurity in and around the State makes the temporary camp porous to insecurity, and the government is therefore urged to consider it necessary to move the orientation camp for the village it is now to a more conducive location in Birnin-Kebbi metropolis.

On State allowances to Corps Members, Ahaji Kagarko expressed further disheartening that it is only Kebbi State out of States in the Country that pays a paltry sum of N2,000 to Corps Members which he described as grossly inadequate.

“Despite this meager and ridiculous amount, the payment is very irregular, as for many months ranging to three, five months and above, this money will not be paid, some Corps Members ended up not receiving a dime throughout their Service year, which is very unfortunate,” he lamented.
