INEC issues certificates of return to winners of June 20 bye-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented certificates of return to candidates who won the bye-elections conducted on June 20, 2026, across several states in the country.
The elections, which took place in Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Kano, produced winners who were formally recognised by the electoral body on Tuesday through the issuance of their certificates.
INEC confirmed the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that the exercise was carried out on behalf of Joash Amupitan, the commission’s chairman by the National Commissioner supervising Rivers State, May Agbamuche-Mbu.
Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the successful candidates and advised them to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents through effective leadership and service delivery.
She stressed that elected officials carry the responsibility of representing the interests of the people and ensuring meaningful governance outcomes.
The commission also stated that Certificates of Return will be issued to winners of the Kebbi state house of assembly Zuru Constituency election as well as the Ekiti state governorship election.
INEC added that national commissioners representing the various constituencies handled the presentations to formally confirm the elected candidates.
