Inter ponder Akinsanmiro return

Inter Milan are weighing whether to trigger an €8.5m buy-back clause to bring Super Eagles midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro back to the club this summer, following the expiry of his season-long loan at relegated Pisa.
Pisa have already moved to activate their own €7.5m option to sign the 21-year-old permanently after his impressive displays in Serie A, but the Italian champions hold the final say due to the buy-back clause inserted into his contract when he joined the Tuscan club last summer.
Akinsanmiro joined Inter in 2023 but has spent much of his time in Italy out on loan, with intense competition for places at the San Siro limiting his path into the first team. He featured 35 times for Sampdoria in Serie B during the 2024/25 season, scoring once and providing an assist, before joining Pisa, where he made 25 appearances and registered one assist, though he could not help the club avoid relegation from Serie A.
Despite his time away from the first team, Inter continue to rate the former Remo Stars man highly, with the club’s hierarchy believing he has the qualities to develop into a top-tier midfielder.
He impressed during his time with Inter’s Primavera side, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 42 appearances.
Reports in Italy suggest Inter are giving serious consideration to triggering the clause, particularly given Pisa’s relegation, with the club viewing continued development in Serie A as the best path forward for the midfielder.
Should Inter activate the option, the most likely scenarios would see Akinsanmiro either integrated into the senior squad or sent out on another loan to a stable Serie A side, with a return to Pisa in Serie B considered the least likely outcome.
