Kano anti-graft agency reclaims 371 encroached grazing reserves, cattle routes

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, said it has reclaimed 371 encroached grazing reserves, cattle routes (Burtali/Labi), and other pastoral resources across the State.

Chairman of the agency, Saidu Yahaya, disclosed this in a statement in Kano made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday.

Mr Yahaya said the commission had also taken steps to identify individuals and entities responsible for the encroachment, with a view to bring them to book.

He said the commission, upon receiving complaints over the alleged encroachment, initiated a statewide assessment of compliance, with an Executive Order issued on 24 October 2024, prohibiting the allocation and encroachment.

He explained that the exercise was carried out in 36 local government areas where key stakeholders identified the 371 locations encroached.

The Commission, according to the statement, engaged key stakeholders, including officials of the Ministry of Livestock Development, Local Government Land Officers, District Heads, and representatives of Fulani communities.

In addition, the statement revealed that the Commission had also commenced the reclamation and restoration of the affected pastoral resources.

“The commission is also strengthening collaboration with relevant government agencies to ensure their protection, preservation, and sustainable use,” it said.

It further added that the findings underscored the extent of encroachment on critical pastoral resources and reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government to protecting public assets.

“The government will also support livestock development, enhance food security and promote peaceful coexistence among communities,” the statement added.

It expressed the commission’s commitment to ensuring compliance with government policies and safeguarding public resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
