Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has donated N20 million to the families of the five youths who lost their lives and those who sustained injuries in the tragic motor accident that occurred along Airport Road in Ambursa, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

The fatal accident occurred on Saturday when a Toyota Sienna conveying 18 youths to a friendly football match lost control and somersaulted, claiming the lives of five passengers while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

On the directive of Governor Idris, a high-powered delegation led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Dutsinmari, alongside the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Muslim, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Alhaji Ibrahim Jombali, the Special Adviser on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmad Idris, and other senior government officials, visited Ambursa on Monday to convey the Governor’s condolences and present the financial assistance to the victims and their families.

Speaking at the palace of the District Head of Ambursa during the presentation, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Dutsinmari said Governor Idris had wished to personally sympathise with the victims and their families but was unavoidably engaged in official duties.

He recalled that the Governor witnessed the accident firsthand and immediately directed emergency measures to save lives.

The Commissioner announced that Governor Idris approved the distribution of the N20 million as follows: N3 million to each of the families of the five deceased victims, N1 million to each of those who sustained injuries, while the remaining N2 million would be shared among the other occupants of the vehicle.

He described the loss of the five young men as a great tragedy not only for the Ambursa community but also for Kebbi State as a whole, and assured the victims and their families of the Governor’s continued sympathy and support.

Responding on behalf of the community, the District Head of Ambursa, Alhaji Isah Haruna Rasheed, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Idris for his compassion, swift intervention and generous financial support.

He said the Governor demonstrated exceptional leadership by personally participating in the rescue operation and by sending a high-powered delegation to console the community.

The District Head prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the departed souls, grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, bless Governor Idris abundantly for his kindness, and grant speedy recovery to those receiving treatment.

Special prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the injured were offered by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Engr. Imrana Usman.

It will be recalled that Governor Idris and members of his entourage were on their way to the airport to bid farewell to the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, who had attended the wedding ceremony of the daughter of the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, in Birnin Kebbi, when they arrived at the scene of the accident moments after it occurred.

Governor Idris immediately joined the rescue operation, assisting in the evacuation of victims from the wreckage. He also directed the ambulance in his convoy to transport the injured to hospital without delay and ordered that they receive prompt medical attention.
