Kebbi: Police launch manhunt for husband after wife dies in gun incident

Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation and a manhunt for a man after his wife died from a gunshot wound in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama via his X handle.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on June 9 in Geza Village, where a 25-year-old woman, Sa’ima Sani, sustained gunshot injuries from a locally made Dane gun.
Preliminary findings indicated that the deceased had been asked by her husband, Auwalu Hassan, to bring him the loaded firearm, which had been kept in a room inside their residence.
While carrying the weapon to the rear of the house where her husband was, the gun reportedly discharged accidentally, hitting her in the stomach and left hand.
The incident was reported to the police, prompting officers from the Bagudo Divisional Police Headquarters to respond and evacuate the victim to the General Hospital in Bagudo for treatment.
She was later confirmed dead while receiving medical care.
Police said the body was photographed and processed before being released to her family for burial.
The command also disclosed that efforts were underway to locate and arrest the deceased’s husband, who reportedly left the area after the incident.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether any criminal negligence was involved.
The police urged members of the public to observe proper firearm safety measures and ensure weapons are securely stored to prevent avoidable tragedies.
