Horror as woman gang raped in field after being knocked unconscious

A woman was gang raped in a secluded field after being knocked unconscious. Police have confirmed a man, Benson Simiyu, has been jailed for 12 years following the attack, while a second suspect remains at large.

The victim was on her way to the shop at around 9pm on January 15, 2015, when she was stopped by two men. They attacked her with a metal pole and stole her phone before taking her to a field. They then took turns raping her and left her unconscious in the field.

As reported by Citizen Digital, Benson Simiyu was arrested following the attack in Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. He pleaded not guilty but was convicted of two counts related to gang rape and causing indecent acts with an adult.

He was found guilty by Senior Principal Magistrate Kesse Cheronoh in the first count of gang rape contrary to section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act No 3 and also the second count of committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to section (A) of the sexual offences Act No 3 of 2006. However, the second suspect remains at large as police continue to try and track him down.

The attack saw the victim knocked unconscious after being hit with a metal pole. She fell to the ground and was bleeding from her head before being raped in a secluded field.

After the attack, she was left in the field as the rapists fled. They also stole her mobile phone and cash, which was in her pocket at the time.

Turbo Sub-County is located within the North Rift region of Kenya. It has a population of around 210,000 people and spans around 323 km².
