The Lagos State Government has sealed off an i-Fitness Gym facility in the Jakande Roundabout area of Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, over alleged indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage into public drains.
The action was carried out on Tuesday by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, as announced on the official social media page of the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
The agency said the facility was shut for allegedly channelling untreated sewage into public drainage systems via pipe, a practice the government described as a public nuisance, environmental hazard, and a serious risk to public health.
It added that enforcement action was necessary to ensure compliance with wastewater management laws in the state.
The government reiterated that individuals and organisations must adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, warning that anyone found contravening environmental regulations would face appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution under relevant environmental laws.
Officials also urged residents and businesses across Lagos to adopt safer environmental practices to reduce pollution and protect public health.
The sealing of the gym forms part of a series of recent enforcement actions by the Lagos State Government targeting environmental violations across the state.
