Family Court II in Calabar has sentenced Endurance Ime Sandy to life imprisonment for the rape of an 11-year-old girl, following a trial that lasted several months and concluded on Wednesday.
Delivering the verdict, presiding judge Justice Blessing Obin Egwu held that the evidence presented during the trial clearly established the defendant’s guilt, ruling that he deserved no leniency.
The judge stressed that the conviction should serve as a strong deterrent to anyone whose conduct involves the violation of minors.
Following the sentencing, Barr. James Ibor, principal partner at Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, commended the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Calabar, the Cross River State Police Command, and the state’s Attorney General, Etubom Ededem Ani, for the critical roles they played in the investigation.
He specifically acknowledged the support provided to investigators and the child throughout the case, extending appreciation to Okoi Ukam, Esq, and Mrs Linda Asuquo for their contributions.
Ibor also affirmed the unwavering commitment of the Cross River State Government to protecting children and ensuring their safety.
