Mob burns woman to death in Kaduna over child theft rumour

A woman has been lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state, following allegations that she was involved in child theft, an incident that has thrown the community into shock.
The victim, a married woman and mother, was reportedly on her way to an Islamic lecture when some youths accused her of attempting to steal children.
The allegation quickly spread, drawing a large crowd that attacked her before security operatives arrived at the scene.
She was initially rescued by police officers and taken to a nearby station for safety and investigation. However, the situation escalated when an angry crowd later stormed the police facility, demanding her release.
Despite attempts by security personnel to disperse the mob, the crowd reportedly overpowered officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody and set her ablaze.
A resident said the victim was innocent, insisting she was simply heading to religious studies when the accusation was made.
Confirming the incident, the Kaduna state police command described the attack as “barbaric and criminal,” adding that several suspects had been arrested while efforts were ongoing to track down others involved.
The police also stated that a full investigation has commenced to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
