APC retains Kano federal constituency seat, wins by-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa federal constituency by-election held in Kano state on Saturday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Rabiu Shuaibu, the APC candidate winner of the poll after securing a commanding lead over his opponents.
Announcing the results, Prof. Umar Sani, the returning officer said Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes to defeat his closest rivals. Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) garnered 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP) received 98 votes.
Prof. Sani stated that the APC candidate satisfied all legal requirements and was therefore duly returned as the winner of the election.
“Having fulfilled the provisions of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” he announced.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The outcome further strengthens the APC’s presence in Kano State, with the party maintaining control of the federal constituency despite challenges from opposition parties.
INEC officials, security agencies, political party representatives and election observers monitored the exercise, which was conducted across polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa local government areas.
The by-election forms part of ongoing efforts by the electoral commission to fill vacant legislative seats across the country.
