Mutfwang swears in Datti, Gar as commissioners, demands accountability

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday inaugurated two commissioners into the State Executive Council, charging them to uphold accountability, transparency and effective service delivery in line with his administration’s development agenda.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, was conducted by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, who administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance on behalf of the governor.

The newly inaugurated commissioners are Bashir Lawandi Datti, who will oversee the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy Development, and Ephraim Usman Gar, who was assigned to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Their inauguration followed their screening and confirmation by the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Datti and Gar had previously served in the Mutfwang administration before resigning their appointments to contest elective positions. Datti sought the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency seat, while Gar contested for the Plateau Central Senatorial District ticket. Both were unsuccessful in their bids and were subsequently reappointed into the state cabinet.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang congratulated the commissioners and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated service and commitment to the welfare of the people.

He said the appointments reflected his administration’s determination to strengthen governance institutions and improve service delivery across critical sectors of the state’s economy.

“The appointments underscore our determination to further strengthen governance institutions and enhance service delivery in key sectors, particularly water resources, energy development, local government administration and the preservation of traditional institutions,” the governor said.

Mutfwang called on the commissioners to align themselves with the administration’s vision of sustainable development, accountable governance and inclusive growth.

He also stressed the importance of teamwork, transparency and a people-centred approach in implementing government policies and programmes.

“The success of our administration depends on teamwork, transparency and a citizen-focused approach in achieving developmental objectives aimed at improving the quality of life of Plateau people,” he added.

In their separate remarks, the commissioners expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, loyalty and a strong sense of duty.

They assured residents of Plateau State of their readiness to deliver on the mandates of their respective ministries and contribute to the administration’s broader development agenda.
