NLNG awards contracts for three new vessels

Bonny Gas Transport Limited, a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited, has awarded contracts for the construction of three new liquefied natural gas carriers to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group and China Shipbuilding Trading Company.

According to a statement, the vessels form part of BGT’s fleet renewal and replacement programme aimed at modernising its shipping operations and improving efficiency across its LNG value chain.

The company stated that each of the vessels will have a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and will be equipped with advanced X-DF propulsion technology designed to enhance fuel efficiency while reducing emissions compared to older LNG carrier designs.

It was stated that the vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and will be chartered by NLNG.

They will be managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, an integrated maritime services company responsible for providing marine support services to NLNG operations.

BGT said the newbuilds represent a key milestone in its long-term strategy to modernise its fleet and support cleaner, more efficient and future-ready operations.

The company added that the vessels will comply with global and European Union emissions regulations and support NLNG’s efforts to maintain its OGMP 2.0 Level 5 rating, noting that the new LNG carriers will further strengthen NLNG’s capacity to deliver cleaner energy to international markets while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.

The statement read partly, “Bonny Gas Transport Limited, a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited, has awarded contracts for the construction of three newbuild LNG vessels to Hudong-Zhongua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Limited and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Limited.

“The vessels are part of BGT’s fleet renewal and replacement plan programme. Each vessel will have a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and will be fitted with advanced X-DF propulsion technology. This technology improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions compared to older vessel designs.

“The vessels are expected to be delivered in 2029. They will be chartered by NLNG and managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, an integrated maritime services company with a strong reputation for providing top-notch maritime services.”
