Osun-Osogbo festival draws corporate interest, tourism prospects

The 2026 Osun-Osogbo Festival is attracting increased corporate interest and reinforcing its status as a major tourism asset, with stakeholders highlighting its potential to drive visitor traffic, investment, and economic activity in Osun State and Nigeria.

As preparations for the cultural event gather momentum, Orijin has reaffirmed its sponsorship of the festival, extending a partnership that has now entered its sixth consecutive year.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday that its continued support reflects its focus on promoting cultural heritage while strengthening engagement with consumers through one of Nigeria’s most recognised cultural festivals.

Speaking at an event ahead of the festival, Senior Brand Manager, Orijin TM/Brown Spirits, Dorcas Mashingil, described the partnership as a natural extension of the brand’s connection with culture. “The Osun-Osogbo Festival represents a powerful source of cultural identity — a place where tradition, community, and spirituality come together,” she said.

“At Orijin, we believe staying connected to our roots is what gives us the confidence to express ourselves today. That’s why this partnership matters — it allows us to celebrate culture not just as history, but as a living, evolving part of who we are.”

According to the company, the partnership is aimed at supporting a platform that promotes cultural identity while creating opportunities for younger generations to engage with heritage in contemporary ways.

Mashingil said Orijin remained committed to supporting initiatives that promote authenticity and cultural pride.

Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Osun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Abiodun Ojo, highlighted the economic importance of the festival and the role of private sector participation in sustaining it.

“The festival cannot be sustained by the government alone. We need the support of sponsors because it represents a significant cultural and economic investment opportunity for Osun State and Nigeria,” he stated.

Ojo noted that corporate sponsorship remains important to the continued growth and development of the event, which attracts visitors and economic activity to the state.

Also speaking, the Ataoja of Osogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II, commended Orijin for its continued support and urged more corporate organisations to invest in the state’s cultural and tourism assets.

“We are deeply thankful to Orijin. Orijin is heritage, and heritage is tradition. That is what Osun-Osogbo represents — a celebration that has made Osun State a global cultural convergence point year after year,” the monarch said.

The Osun-Osogbo Festival, which is more than 600 years old, is recognised internationally for its cultural significance and remains one of Africa’s prominent cultural and tourism events.

Organisers expect the 2026 edition to attract more than 500,000 visitors from within Nigeria and abroad, underscoring the festival’s role in promoting tourism and cultural activities.

As preparations continue, stakeholders say sustained collaboration between the public and private sectors will be important in supporting the festival and enhancing its contribution to the state’s tourism economy.
