Peter Mbah Approves Scholarships for Over 760 Enugu Students and Teachers

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved scholarships for more than 760 beneficiaries under the state’s 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme as part of efforts to expand access to education and strengthen human capital development.

The Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Enugu.

He said the beneficiaries, drawn from the 17 local government areas of the state and across various fields of study, comprise more than 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and 160 public sector teachers.

According to him, successful applicants who passed the Computer-Based Test have begun receiving text messages and emails inviting them for verification and documentation on a local government-by-local government basis.

Mbah said the scholarship scheme reflects the governor’s commitment to investing in education, empowering young people and equipping the state’s workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the state’s development agenda.

He urged successful candidates to respond promptly to the notifications sent to them to facilitate the verification process.

According to him, the scholarship programme is one of the key education initiatives of the Mbah administration aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent qualified residents from pursuing higher education.

He added that additional beneficiaries would be captured in the next phase of the programme, noting that more beneficiaries would be captured subsequently and that the programme remains open to the people of Enugu State, with residents encouraged to continue applying.

He stressed that this was not the time for anyone to say they were unable to access quality education because of funding, as the governor had made it easy for the people to access free, quality education.

The state government has consistently identified education as a major pillar of its development agenda, with increased investments in infrastructure, digital learning, teacher development and scholarship programmes aimed at improving access to quality education across the state.
