Police arrest three over muder of ex-OGTV broadcaster, security guard

The Ogun state police command has apprehended three suspects in connection with the killing of Olakitan Oyesiku, a former Ogun state television broadcaster and Pelumi Adetayo, her security guard.

Bode Ojajun, the commissioner of police announced the arrests during a briefing in Abeokuta on Thursday, stating that the suspects were tracked down through intelligence-driven investigations, forensic analysis and technical surveillance.

The victims were discovered dead at Oyesiku’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21. Her Lexus RX 330 vehicle was also reported missing from the premises.

Ojajuni said detectives who responded to a distress report found signs of forced entry into the residence.

Adetayo’s body was recovered from the security post within the compound, while Oyesiku was found dead inside the main building.

Investigators subsequently recovered the missing vehicle and uncovered a handwritten note believed to have been left behind by the perpetrators. According to the police commissioner, forensic examination of the note provided crucial leads that aided the investigation.

The principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Further operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Police said Philip confessed to involvement in the crime and admitted recruiting the two other suspects.

According to Ojajuni, the suspect told investigators he targeted the deceased over grievances dating back to the period he worked as her security guard.

Findings by detectives indicated that the suspects first subdued Adetayo before using him to gain access to the residence.

They allegedly attacked Oyesiku and later killed the security guard before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.

The police commissioner disclosed that a search linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several items believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a pen.

Ojajuni said investigations were still ongoing to strengthen the case and ensure the successful prosecution of all those involved.

He assured residents that the command remained committed to securing justice for the victims and bringing every person connected to the killings before the law.
