Police Intensify Crime Fight in Nasarawa as DIG Unveils Fresh Security Directives

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Training and Development, and Coordinating DIG for the North-Central Geo-Political Zone, Isyaku Mohammed, has reiterated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to reducing crime and enhancing public safety nationwide, with particular focus on Nasarawa State.

The DIG made the declaration during an official inspection visit to the Nasarawa State Police Command, where he met with key stakeholders, including heads of security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, transport union representatives, members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), command officers, and members of the public.

Addressing the gathering, Mohammed conveyed assurances from the Inspector-General regarding the Force’s determination to tackle crime, strengthen public confidence, and promote a safer society, stressing the importance of collaboration between the police and community stakeholders, since sustainable security, he noted, can only be achieved through collective effort.

He maintained that effective policing must be rooted at the grassroots level, urging officers to take the fight directly to criminal elements through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and enhanced visibility policing aimed at denying criminals room to operate.

The DIG also directed officers to intensify enforcement against unregistered vehicles and those bearing defaced, obscured, or unauthorised number plates, including vehicles displaying manufacturer logos in place of approved registration numbers.

He, however, urged personnel to carry out their duties professionally and without extortion, harassment, or misconduct, further cautioning tactical teams and operational personnel to conduct all operations within the bounds of the law and in strict adherence to human rights principles.

He warned against actions capable of eroding public trust in the police, stressing the importance of professionalism, accountability, discipline, and respect for citizens’ rights.

Mohammed also conveyed the Inspector-General’s appreciation to officers and personnel of the Force for their sacrifices and dedication in combating crime nationwide, assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority for police leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isyaka Dauda commended the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts in maintaining peace and security across Nasarawa State, disclosing that the Emirate Council supports security agencies through weekly meetings involving traditional rulers across the state aimed at addressing emerging challenges and developing local solutions.

Other stakeholders at the meeting praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police and the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police for what they described as notable improvements in the state’s security situation, while appealing for additional manpower, operational vehicles, and logistics support to strengthen the command’s capacity to respond effectively to security threats.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, assured the DIG that the command would continue implementing directives aimed at strengthening community policing and protecting lives and property across the state.

According to the police, the visit underscores the Force’s commitment to stakeholder engagement, intelligence-led policing, and community partnership as key strategies for sustaining peace and enhancing public safety in Nasarawa State.
