Former senator Iyabo Obasanjo has rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, pledging her loyalty to the party after being officially received by party leaders and supporters at its secretariat in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
At the event, PDP leaders presented her with the party flag, symbolizing her candidacy for the Ogun Central senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In her remarks, Obasanjo committed to upholding the party’s constitution, manifesto, and code of conduct, pledging to serve with integrity, humility, and dedication while prioritizing the welfare of the people above personal or sectional interests.
The first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo previously represented Ogun Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011 under the PDP.
She had returned to Nigeria after spending time abroad and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in January, but exited the party roughly five months later in late May, following an unsuccessful bid for its governorship ticket.
She attributed her departure to what she described as unfair treatment and disrespect within the party.
Ogun PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella, who formally presented her with the party flag, described her as a valued member of the party and expressed confidence in her ability to contribute meaningfully to its success.
Also speaking at the event, PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu praised Obasanjo’s dedication and selfless service, describing her as a genuine daughter of the soil, while pledging that local government autonomy would be fully implemented in the state if he is elected governor.
