Pres. Tinubu Urged To Ensure Fair Representation Ahead Of 2027 General Elections

Residents of Somolu Constituency 1 in Lagos State have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene in what they describe as a growing political imbalance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The residents in an open letter signed by one of the community members, James Olaleye, expressed concern over the emergence of political figures from the same faction seeking key positions within the constituency.

According to the letter, the recent ‘appointment’ of honourable Kolade Alabi to the House of Representatives, has raised questions about political fairness, as both Alabi and Mr. Abiodun Orekoya are said to belong to the same political group.

The residents argued that previous electoral arrangements in Somolu reflected a balance between different political interests, citing the election that produced honourable Ademorin Kuye and Orekoya as an example. While maintained that preserving such balance is essential to ensuring unity and inclusiveness within the constituency.

The letter further noted that Orekoya, who is reportedly related to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is receiving support from influential quarters. However, the residents warned that such backing may not be widely accepted by stakeholders in Somolu Constituency 1.

They called on party leaders to consider honourable Omogbolahan Bago-Stowe, whom they described as the winner of the primary process, stressing that fairness and equal representation are vital for political stability and harmony in the constituency. 

The residents letter captioned open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, dated June 2, 2026, reads in part: “We, the residents of Somolu Constituency 1, wish to raise an important concern.

“Alabi has been appointed to the House of Representatives, and since Alabi and Orekoya belong to the same group, consistent with our local government’s tradition, the last general election, which resulted in honourable Kuye and Orekoya, was because they represented different groups.

“We believe that the same principle should apply in the 2027 election to ensure a fair outcome in Somolu that satisfies all factions. Currently, Alabi and Orekoya, both from the same group, are claiming to be the party’s sole candidates.

“Orekoya, related to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, is supporting him, but this may not be well received in Somolu Constituency 1.

“We think Gbolahan Bago-Stowe, who won the primary, should be given the position, as favouring the other group could lead to feelings of exclusion. We thank you, sir, and look forward to a positive response.”
