Students’ Tinubu Praise Video Sparks Controversy and Online Reactions Ahead of 2027 Elections

A short video showing students near a school in southwestern Nigeria singing praises of President Bola Tinubu has circulated widely online, sparking mostly mockery and debate amid the country’s increasingly charged political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections.

In the clip, the students are heard chanting in Yoruba and English, crediting Tinubu with providing them with math sets and expressing support for his re-election bid while urging critics to stop speaking negatively about him.

However, online reactions have been largely dismissive, with many Nigerians pointing out that math sets are standard examination supplies routinely distributed to students ahead of WAEC exams, and that presenting them as a noteworthy presidential gesture is misleading  particularly against the backdrop of high inflation, soaring food prices, and widespread youth unemployment that have characterized the Tinubu administration’s tenure.

The video has not been verified, and Tinubu’s team has yet to confirm any such distribution.

The clip nonetheless reflects the deeply polarized state of Nigerian politics as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections, with supporters and critics of the president sharply divided over his record in office.
