The family of the late Safo Kantanka has held a press conference alleging that former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo survived a deliberate assassination attempt after more than 48 rounds were fired at her vehicle during a family dispute over a chieftaincy coronation ceremony.
A spokesperson for the Safo Kantanka family made the disclosure at a media briefing attended by several journalists, stating that the incident occurred after the family received intelligence about plans to install a successor to their late patriarch in defiance of an existing court injunction prohibiting such a ceremony.
According to the spokesperson, Adwoa Safo and some of her siblings travelled to the venue with the intention of cautioning their brother against proceeding with the coronation.
“Upon her arrival, she was confronted by armed men who deliberately opened fire on her vehicle, discharging more than 48 rounds in what was clearly an attempt on her life,” the spokesperson alleged.
The family described the attack as premeditated and called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The shooting incident involving the former Dome Kwabenya MP has drawn widespread public attention, given her prominence as a former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection under the previous New Patriotic Party administration.
The court injunction referenced by the family, its scope, and the identity of the presiding court were not immediately verified.
