President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, swore in two new Federal Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The President also swore in newly appointed Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).

The swearing-in was done at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

KeepLoss reports that among those inaugurated for the RMAFC were Amina Gamawa (Bauchi State) and a former Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed (Kaduna State). Both took the oath of office as federal commissioners for the RMAFC.

For the National Population Commission, six new commissioners were sworn in.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the safe and successful rescue of ten National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers abducted during an ISWAP attack on Lassa Community in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The rescue was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, Captain Mohammed Goni.

According to him, the Theatre Command scrambled both strike and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft from the Air Component of OPHK to support troops mobilised to the area for a coordinated search and rescue operation.

The spokesperson, however, disclosed that one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force lost their lives during the exchange of fire with the terrorists.

As earlier reported by Naija News, armed men invaded the school while the students were writing exams and abducted some of the students.

However, the Army confirmed that troops, in conjunction with other security operatives, engaged the abductors in a gun fight, leading to the rescue of some of the victims.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that the Federal Government is planning to remove the option of fines for convicted drug traffickers.

KeepLoss reports that the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, revealed the development on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He stated that the option of fines creates a loophole that weakens the fight against drug-related crimes.

Babafemi said the judiciary has remained a strong partner in the agency’s efforts to prosecute drug offenders, noting that the agency records a conviction rate of nearly 90 per cent.

He, however, identified the option of fines for convicted drug traffickers as a major challenge, saying its removal would serve as a stronger deterrent.

4. Court Gives INEC 72 Hours Ultimatum To Register ADA As A Political Party

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) as a political party.

The order was given on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu.

KeepLoss reports that he also ordered INEC to release the access code to the association under the leadership of Akin Ricketts within 72 hours.

It will be recalled that INEC had, in October 2025, listed ADA among 14 pre-qualified associations that applied to be registered as political parties, having completed the upload of all required information and documentation.

Though the commission okayed the association and seven others for the next stage of the registration process, ADA approached the court alleging that its access code was wrongly released to one Umar Ardo, who is neither its Pro-tem National Chairman nor its Secretary.

It urged the court to compel INEC to issue to the plaintiff the access code to enable the association to upload the necessary information and documents for the registration of ADA as a political party.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against claims that he has not done enough to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Speaking during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organized by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington on June 23, Adeboye said the president had carried out his duty by giving orders to the military and security agencies.

According to him, it is not the responsibility of the commander-in-chief to personally take part in military operations on the battlefield.

6. Petrol Price Should Reflect Crude Oil Decline – FG Charges NMDPRA

The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to ensure that petroleum marketers do not exploit Nigerians through excessive pricing under the deregulated downstream market.

KeepLoss reports that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, gave the directive on Monday in Abuja while delivering the keynote address at the 2026 NMDPRA General Counsel and Legal Advisers Forum.

Lokpobiri said that although the downstream petroleum sector had been fully deregulated, the regulator must ensure that deregulation is not used as an avenue for profiteering at the expense of consumers.

According to him, following the de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the decline in global crude oil prices, Nigerians expected a corresponding reduction in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

He noted that this had yet to happen, as refiners and marketers had continued to sell at elevated pump prices despite the significant drop in crude oil prices from a peak of $120 per barrel to $72 per barrel last week.

Chelsea have confirmed that Enzo Maresca will pay compensation to the club after his appointment as Manchester City’s new head coach was finalised.

The 46-year-old Italian coach signed a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, replacing Pep Guardiola, who stepped down in May after a trophy-filled decade in charge.

KeepLoss gathered that City’s move for Maresca was delayed while both clubs negotiated a compensation package. Although neither side disclosed the figure, BBC Sport reported that Manchester City will pay Chelsea about £17 million.

The payment is separate from a confidential settlement agreed between Chelsea and Maresca, under which the former Blues boss will also compensate the London club.

Chelsea issued a strongly worded statement explaining the circumstances surrounding Maresca’s departure midway through last season, placing much of the blame for their disappointing 2025/26 campaign on his decision to leave.

According to the club, Maresca informed senior officials during the autumn that he wanted to succeed Guardiola if the opportunity arose.
