UNIPORT Appoints Prof. Princewill Chike as 10th Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has approved the appointment of Prof. Princewill Chike as the institution’s 10th Vice-Chancellor.
Chike is set to assume office on July 13, coinciding with the end of the tenure of outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Owunari Georgewill on the same date.
University spokesperson Dr. Sam Kpenu announced the appointment in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, confirming that it was approved by the university’s 17th Governing Council following the conclusion of a formal selection process.
He noted that the exercise was carried out in strict accordance with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and the University of Port Harcourt Act, involving both a Search Team and a Joint Council-Senate Selection Board.
Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa congratulated Chike on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capacity to provide visionary leadership that will drive the continued growth and development of the institution.
Chike previously served as Rivers State Commissioner for Health during the administration of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
