“We assure Nigerians of safe rescue of every student, teacher” – Minister

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that all students and teachers abducted by armed groups across the country will be safely rescued.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance during a National Press Briefing in Abuja on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Idris called for stronger collaboration among Nigerians, the media, civil society organisations, and security agencies in the fight against terrorism and other forms of violent extremism.
“Defeating terrorism requires a united national response that transcends political, ethnic, religious, and regional differences.
“Terrorism has no tribe, no religion, and no political affiliation. Its only purpose is destruction,” Idris said.
The minister also launched the hashtag #UniteAgainstTerror, while reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to securing the safe return of all abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
“I wish to assure all Nigerians that the safe return of every child and every teacher currently in captivity remains a top national priority.
“The President has made it clear that no child belongs in captivity and that no effort will be spared in ensuring that those responsible for these heinous crimes are brought to justice,” he said.
He added that security agencies are working under the President’s direct directive to ensure the safe rescue of those in captivity.
The minister urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, provide credible intelligence to security agencies, and reject divisive narratives that seek to pit communities against one another along ethnic, religious, or political lines.
