Woman faces over 100 felony charges for allegedly leaking info to drug ring

A former juvenile probation officer in Florida has been arrested and charged with more than 100 felony counts after authorities accused her of leaking confidential law enforcement information to members of a drug trafficking organisation.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Crystal Lawson, a former employee of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Investigators allege that Lawson used access to a criminal justice database to obtain information about active investigations and arrest warrants, which she then shared with individuals linked to a drug trafficking network.

According to authorities, Lawson allegedly accessed the Comprehensive Case Information System to search for active criminal cases, identify co-defendants, and obtain details of outstanding arrest warrants. Investigators claim the information was used to warn suspects that law enforcement officers were closing in on them. The sheriff’s office said the alleged disclosures resulted in lost evidence, unrecovered assets, and at least one suspect fleeing to avoid arrest.

Lawson reportedly joined the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in February 2022 but was dismissed later that year following an arrest on a battery allegation. Authorities said her access to the database was not properly revoked after her dismissal. Investigators allege that between January and May 2026, Lawson illegally accessed the database 106 times. She has been charged with 113 felony counts related to unauthorised computer access.

If convicted, each count carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years under Florida law, meaning the maximum cumulative sentence could exceed 500 years. The case remains under investigation, and Lawson has not publicly responded to the allegations. Prosecutors will be required to prove the charges in court.
