You were gÂ¥nned down for no reason – Colleague pens tribute for Teacher k!lled in Ogbomoso School Abduction Crisis

Exactly one month after bandits invaded three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomosho, Oyo State, the academic community continues to mourn the tragic loss of a veteran educator while awaiting news on 45 abducted students and teachers.
The coordinated assault, which took place exactly one month ago today, took a fatal turn at the Local Authority (LA) Primary School in Ahoro Esiele. Bandits fatally shot Joel Adesiyan, a dedicated teacher at the institution, before fleeing with dozens of hostages. Mr. Adesiyan has since been laid to rest by his family and colleagues.
In a moving tribute shared on Facebook, a senior colleague of the deceased, Akinwoye Akintunde, openly mourned the loss, praising Adesiyan’s dedication to the teaching profession and his ultimate sacrifice.
He wrote
ââExactly one month ago today, you woke up on the morning of Friday, 15th May, 2026. You left your home at Ahoro Esiele for school â Local Authority Primary School, Ahoro Esiele â not knowing that it would be your last day on earth.
You were a dedicated, knowledgeable, and sound teacher. You died wearing the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Chapter uniform. That carried a deep meaning.
Adesiyan Joel, you were a teacher holding chalk, not a gun, yet you were gunned down by a very wicked soul for no reason.
Your passing has left a vacuum that truly cannot be filled. You were a rare tutor, a giver of knowledge, and a teacher par excellence.
You resumed duty on Mondays at Ahoro Esiele, stayed there through the week, and only returned to Ogbomoso on Fridays. What a faithful civil servant to the core.
No wonder I wept like a baby when I heard of your death while on my way to Takie, around the NTA Ogbomoso area. It was indeed a rude shock. Your death was untimely, but Scripture helps me understand that Godâs ways are beyond human searching. I must confess it is saddening, but God knows better than we do.
Rest on, brother â a senior colleague, a fellow church member, and a hardworking tutor.
It is well.”
