Zamfara clash leaves several injured, seven suspects on the run

A violent clash between youths of Tungar Kanwa and Gajarawa villages in Morai District, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has left several people injured, while seven suspects are currently on the run.

The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the clash broke out on Thursday at about 10:30 am and later escalated into a wider confrontation between the two communities before security intervention brought the situation under control.

Security sources said armed personnel were deployed to the area after a distress call was received around 1:00 pm, leading to the restoration of calm in the affected communities.

Several residents sustained injuries during the violence.

From Gajarawa village, those injured include Hakimi Tambaya, 58, Umaru Abdullahi, 22, Uzairu Aliyu, 20, Usama Aliyu, 22, Junaidu Umaru, 20, and Kabiru Abdullahi, 20.

From Tungar Kanwa, Abdurahman Abubakar, 25, and Kabiru Abu-Babba, 42, were also injured in the clash.

“All the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Kagara for treatment, while those in critical condition were referred to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko for specialised care,” Makama wrote.

Security sources also identified seven suspected masterminds of the violence who are currently at large.

“They include Shiitu Abubakar, Ibrahim Sanda, Abu Rigima, Dan Shehu Hakimi, Anas Buba Kungiya, Hassan Dandago, and Nura Kwaimo, all from Tungar Kanwa village,” Makama added.

Authorities said normalcy has since returned to the area, while investigations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and prevent further violence.
