2027: Shettima’s VP re-nomination reflects loyalty, capacity — Presidential aide

Special Assistant on Administration in the Office of the Vice President, Barr. Abdulsalam Mohammed, has described the re-nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election as a national recognition of his loyalty, competence and leadership.

Mohammed stated this on Saturday at a civic reception and voter sensitisation programme themed, “Borno’s Pride, Nation’s Trust: Celebrating VP Shettima’s Re-nomination,” held at the ICAN Conference Hall in Maiduguri.

He said Shettima’s emergence for a second term reflected the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, noting that the Vice President had distinguished himself through dedicated service, commitment to national development and unwavering loyalty.

According to him, the re-nomination goes beyond politics, describing it as an endorsement of Shettima’s character and leadership.

“His re-nomination is not just a political victory but a national validation of loyalty, character and exceptional capacity. He has represented our region and the nation with dignity, brilliance and executive excellence,” Mohammed said.

He explained that the reception was organised to appreciate the Vice President’s contributions to national development, his mentorship of young leaders and his commitment to creating opportunities for others to excel in public service.

Mohammed also commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for attending the event, saying his presence reflected the enduring relationship between the governor and the Vice President.

He said the programme also served as a platform to sensitise eligible Nigerians on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise following its extension by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Urging residents to participate in the electoral process, he called on community leaders, professionals, youth groups and other stakeholders to mobilise eligible citizens to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The PVC is our voice and our legitimate instrument for shaping the future of our democracy. Every eligible Nigerian should take advantage of the extension granted by INEC to register and participate in the electoral process,” he said.

Mohammed expressed appreciation to the Shehu of Borno, traditional rulers, elder statesmen, professionals and other dignitaries for honouring the invitation.

Speaking with journalists, the APC Women Leader in Borno State and leader of the party’s women’s forum in the North-East, Hajiya Zara Mohammed, pledged to mobilise six million votes for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

She expressed confidence that women across the North-East would deliver overwhelming support for the APC candidates.

“I have always been a grassroots mobiliser. During the last election, I mobilised millions of voters for the APC. With the responsibility I now hold, we are determined to mobilise six million votes for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in 2027, by the grace of God,” she said.

The event attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, youth groups and APC supporters from across Borno.

Among those in attendance were Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, Dr Mali Gubio and Prof. Umara, who delivered the keynote address at the event.
