“Nigeria is the Republic of docile people”- OAP Dotun slams critics of Tyla concert boycott as he recalls South Africa’s treatment of Burna Boy

Media personality Dotun has labeled Nigeria a “republic of docile people,” following intense backlash over his call to boycott South African singer Tyla’s upcoming Lagos concert.

.....

Dotun sparked heated debate on X after warning that any Nigerian attending the December event—given the history of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa—lacks self-respect.

While critics argued that a boycott promotes continental disunity, Dotun doubled down by citing the 2019 Burna Boy controversy. He reminded critics that the public failed to defend Burna Boy when the superstar faced death threats for speaking out against xenophobia in South Africa. Dotun used the precedent to slam what he views as a pattern of national complacency and a lack of collective solidarity.

Dotun further slammed critics for attacking those who defend Nigeria, stating that citizens would rather blame people taking a stance against an artist from a country that “constantly desecrates your national identity and treats Africans in the most inhumane way.”
