AMCRON to discuss media, democracy relationship

The Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria has announced plans to hold its sixth International Academic Conference and Annual General Meeting to examine the changing relationship between the media, democracy and Nigeria’s electoral process.
The conference, scheduled for November 25 and 26, 2026, will take place at the Department of Mass Communication and Media Technology, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The theme of the conference is “Beyond the Inverted Pyramid Formula: Democracy, the Media, the Politicians and the People in Nigeria’s General Elections.”
In a statement made available to Saturday PidomNigeria on Friday, the President of AMCRON, Prof Eserinune Mojaye, said the conference would bring together journalists, media practitioners, politicians, political parties, academics, policymakers, social researchers and other stakeholders to discuss the role of the media in Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to the statement, the association’s Director of Networking and Publicity, Dr Kehinde Oyesomi, said the conference would explore the impact of strategic communication, digital media and media ownership on public trust and the credibility of electoral information.
“This conference provides a vital platform for scholars, practitioners and political umpires to critically examine how the media, politicians and citizens interact during Nigeria’s general elections. It seeks to interrogate issues surrounding media framing, digital propaganda, fact-checking and the role of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence in shaping public opinion and national stability,” the statement read.
