Awal apologises to Fameye, Medikal and industry colleagues over past fights

Ghanaian rapper Awal has apologised to Fameye, Medikal and other players in the creative arts industry for past misunderstandings.

The rapper said he wants to move beyond old issues and promote unity among Ghanaian musicians.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Awal reflected on his fallout with Fameye, explaining that their relationship became strained after a business disagreement.

The issue started around 2019 when Awal featured Fameye on a song titled “Akuapem Poloo.”

According to Awal, he paid Fameye GH¢500 to appear in the song’s music video, but the singer did not attend the shoot.

He said Fameye later refunded the money and requested that his verse be removed from the song.

Looking back, Awal said he regrets how the situation affected their friendship and apologised to Fameye.

“I had issues with Fameye. I don’t even know how it ended, but there was a misunderstanding between us. I don’t know how he felt. Maybe he felt really bad. I would like to tell him that if I’ve stepped on his toes, I’m sorry. We were friends and there was business involved, but sometimes I feel bad that we don’t have that kind of vibe anymore,” he said.

Awal also apologised to rapper Medikal, explaining that their issue came from the competitive nature of hip-hop, where artistes often exchange lyrical shots.

“As for Medikal, I recorded a song, ‘Take It or Leave It.’ In the hip-hop fraternity, it’s part of the culture to take shots at someone. Medikal also used to like me and support me, but through rap culture, one way or the other, I stepped on his toes,” he stated.

The rapper extended his apology to all colleagues he may have offended and called on industry players to work together to promote Ghanaian music.

“To all my colleagues in the industry, if I’ve stepped on your toes in one way or another, I want to say please find a place in your heart to forgive me. Let’s do this together because we are doing this for the culture. Let’s put Ghana on the map,” he added.
