Chioma Omeruah, better known by her stage name Chigul, is a Nigerian comedian and actress who has talked candidly about her divorce, her recovery process, and what it means to live life on her own terms.
The performer discussed life after divorce on an episode of the podcast Transparent, providing personal insights on relationships, self-awareness, and emotional recovery.
Chigul claimed that she defies social norms regarding age, marriage, and being single by feeling young and content at fifty.
She also talked about the stigma that divorced women frequently face and the pressure people have to follow conventional marriage and relationship schedules.
The actress emphasized that “two shattered people cannot come together and make a home,” emphasizing the importance of mending before dating. She claims that relationships and marriages are frequently impacted by unresolved emotional traumas.
She clarified that as people have various upbringings and bring different experiences and viewpoints to relationships, effective partnerships require self-improvement and personal development.
“When we are broken, we hurt ourselves and others,” she stated, emphasizing that both couples must be committed, hardworking, and emotionally mature in order for marriage to succeed.
Chigul’s frank observations struck a chord with listeners on the internet as the episode also examined age-gap relationships, contemporary dating, and the aspirations that many people have for marriage.
