Coal Mine Explosion Leaves Dozens Dead as Rescue Mission Continues

At least 34 workers have been k!lled following a bl@st at a coal mine in southern Pakistan, the provincial disaster management agency said on Friday, adding that rescue teams were still searching for other miners who remain unaccounted for.

The expl0sion, triggered by methane gas, ripped through the mine located near the capital of Balochistan, Pakistan’s resource-rich province, on Thursday.

It set off a rescue operation that continued into the night.

The provincial disaster management authority said in a statement issued in the early hours of Friday that, based on information from teams deployed to the site, 34 d£ad bodies had been recovered.

It added that a joint rescue effort was still ongoing to locate and recover the remaining trapped miners, though it did not disclose how many workers were in the mine at the time of the bl@st.

Mining accidents occur frequently in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan.

As the country’s poorest and largest province by landmass, Balochistan trails the rest of Pakistan across nearly every development index, including education, employment and economic growth.
