COAS Shaibu commissions 10 transit accommodation bungalows for SNCOs in Zamfara

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned 10 bungalow transit accommodation units for the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) of the Nigerian Army 1 Brigade, Gusau, Zamfara State.

The official commissioning of the SNCO transit accommodation was held on Tuesday by the Chief of Army Staff, represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General B.P. Koughna, at the 1 Brigade Army Cantonment, Gusau.

Major General Koughna, who is also the Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation Fansan Yamma, said the project aligned with the COAS’s command philosophy, which places soldiers’ welfare first.

“On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, I now commission this beautiful transit accommodation building for SNCOs. You will recall that when the Chief of Army Staff came on board, he made it clear in his command philosophy that soldiers’ welfare comes first as one of his key principles.”

He commended the Commander, 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Gusau, Brigadier General Mustafa Jimoh, for his efforts towards the execution of the SNCO transit accommodation, and assured that all efforts would be made to ensure the welfare of soldiers.

In his welcome address, the Commander, 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Gusau, Brigadier General Mustafa Jimoh, disclosed that the construction of the 10 bungalows was intended to address the prevailing shortfall in residential accommodation within the brigade, thereby reducing congestion and ensuring a more conducive living environment for beneficiaries.

“The project forms part of the Brigade’s ongoing efforts to improve accommodation and enhance the welfare of officers and soldiers within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.”

He maintained that adequate and decent housing remains a critical factor in boosting the morale, operational readiness, and overall effectiveness of personnel.

Also, Major M.M. Kyari, the Brigade Cantonment Maintenance Officer who supervised the project, explained that the construction of 10 bungalow units was graciously approved and provided by the Commander, 1 Brigade.

“The structure consists of ten (10) bungalow units, each comprising a suite with a toilet and kitchen. Other facilities provided include a solar-powered borehole, overhead water storage tanks, interlocking stone pavement, and trees planted in front of the structure.”
