Cooking gas price reduction update in Nigeria

The prices of liquefied petroleum gas, known as cooking gas, have continued to fall across parts of Nigeria after weeks of upsurge due to supply constraints.
Checks across cooking gas retail outlets in Abuja showed that they have dropped by between N1450 and N1500 per kilogram from N1700 at AA Shafa and Ranoil in Dutse and Gwarimpa.
Other retailers in Kubwa, Dawaki, Bwari, Lugbe, and other parts of the nation’s capital dispense LPG at N1650 and N1700 depending on the location, up from as high as N2000 per kg.
This means that in the last weeks cooking gas prices have eased by N200 and N350 per kilogram, respectively.
Meanwhile, depot owners sell LPG between N1,065 and N1,100 per liter for a kilogram.
Despite the reduction in retail LPG prices linked to improved supply, cooking gas prices are yet to fall to between N1,000 and N1,200 before May 27, 2026.
DAILY POST had directed marketers to increase LPG imports to boost domestic supply.
The spokespersons of the Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, and Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company Plc, NIPCO, Chinedu Ukadike and Taofeek Lawal, have blamed the recent surge in cooking gas prices on seasonal challenges, a surge in demand, and scarcity.
