Court throws out Amaechi’s case against Atiku over ADC presidential ticket

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit filed by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi challenging the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The case was dismissed after Amaechi’s legal team informed the court that both parties had resolved their differences and agreed to discontinue the matter.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the application and struck out the suit, bringing the legal dispute to an end.

Amaechi had asked the court to nullify Atiku’s nomination, arguing that the party’s presidential primary violated the Electoral Act, the ADC constitution and its internal guidelines. He also sought an order preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognizing Atiku as the party’s candidate and requested a fresh primary.

The withdrawal of the case follows a political settlement within the party, with reports indicating that Atiku later picked Amaechi, who finished second in the primary, as his running mate, effectively ending the dispute.
