Speeding driver kills man in Oyo

A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man has been run over by a vehicle at Orogun Bus Stop along the Ojoo/Iwo Road in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Eyewitnesses told The PidomNigeria on Saturday that the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday while the victim was crossing the expressway.
One of the eyewitnesses, who identified herself simply as Iya Kadijat, said the hit-and-run driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
She said, “I was at the bus stop when the incident happened. I was waiting to board a commercial vehicle to General Gas Bus Stop, under the bridge before Iwo Road, when I suddenly heard a loud noise. The driver did not stop at all, while the man died immediately.
“I was so panicked, so I didn’t know what to do. I had to leave immediately in an available Micra taxi,” she said.
Another eyewitness, who did not want her name in print, said, “Almost all the shops were closed at that time because of yesterday’s weather.
This morning, we asked around the community and nobody knows him. So, we are calling on the authorities concerned to come and evacuate the corpse before it causes environmental hazards.
“We are also calling on the authorities concerned to announce on radio and television stations that whoever has a missing family member around Orogun/Agbowo, especially a man, should check the morgue of a nearby hospital.”
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said he would get in touch with the appropriate authorities for the evacuation.
