Dangote Refinery breaks silence on alleged petrol gantry sales suspension

Dangote Refinery has denied reports claiming it suspended petrol gantry sales to marketers and other off-takers.

The clarification came on Thursday after reports emerged that the 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery had stopped loading petrol through its gantry, with the product reportedly selling at about $0.779 per litre, equivalent to around N1,075 per litre.

Speaking with Daily Post, the spokesperson for Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, described the reports as false.

He said the claim that the refinery had suspended petrol gantry sales was untrue.

The speculation followed the refinery’s recent decision to suspend the sale of refined petroleum products in naira, a move that has drawn attention across Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

Although Dangote Refinery has not increased its gantry petrol price, some private depot owners have adjusted their ex-depot prices upward by about N100 per litre.

According to reports, depots including Optima, Emedab and Parker now sell petrol at between N1,200 and N1,225 per litre, up from about N1,080 per litre.

Meanwhile, the retail price of petrol has remained unchanged in Abuja and surrounding areas, where the product still sells for between N1,155 and N1,205 per litre
