A non-governmental organisation, identified as Femi Olutoye Foundation (FOF), has commemorated World Hepatitis Day 2026 by conducting free Hepatitis B screening for 150 students and staff of Best Legacy College of Education, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State.

The outreach, which was organised under the Foundation’s Pause for the Cause Campaign, combined health education with free screening to promote preventive practices and encourage early detection.

A team of healthcare professionals educated participants on hepatitis B transmission, prevention, vaccination, potential complications and the importance of testing.

Beneficiaries also learned that many people living with chronic hepatitis B may have no symptoms and may therefore be unaware of their infection, underscoring the importance of testing and timely medical care.

Free hepatitis B screening followed the education session. Those with non-reactive results received counselling on prevention, including vaccination where appropriate. Participants with reactive results received post-test counselling and referrals for confirmatory testing and further medical evaluation.

Sidiq Taofeeq, who represented FOF said, “The outreach aimed to increase awareness of hepatitis B, encourage early testing and promote vaccination and timely access to appropriate care.”

The beneficiaries lauded the foundation for placing health needs of the students and staff members of the institution on the front burner, and charged other privileged individuals and groups to support effort that will deliver quality healthcare services to the vulnerable in the country.
