GFA Still Hasn’t Given A Reason And I Haven’t Ask Either — Otto Addo On His Dismissal

Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has opened up about his dismissal from the Ghana national team, revealing that he has not been officially informed about the reasons behind the decision to terminate his appointment.

In a recent interview, the German-Ghanaian coach said he was surprised by the decision and admitted that he did not seek an explanation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after his exit.

“I still haven’t been given a reason to this day and honestly, I didn’t ask either. But I feel the expectations were too high,” Otto Addo said.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach explained that he understood the pressure that comes with managing the Black Stars, especially given Ghana’s football history and the expectations of millions of supporters. However, he suggested that the demands placed on the team and technical staff may have been unrealistic.

Otto Addo returned as Black Stars coach in 2024 after previously leading the team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana narrowly missed out on qualification to the knockout stage.

His second spell was met with mixed reactions as the team struggled to produce consistent results in major competitions and qualifiers. Despite securing some important victories, criticism grew among supporters over the team’s performances.

The Ghana Football Association later decided to part ways with him, bringing an end to his tenure as head coach.

Otto Addo’s comments have since reignited discussions among football fans about whether coaches are often judged too quickly in Ghana and whether the expectations surrounding the Black Stars are realistic considering the challenges facing the national team.

Many supporters believe the coach’s results should determine his fate, while others argue that coaches need enough time and support to build a competitive side.

As Ghana continues its search for stability on the international stage, Otto Addo’s remarks have added another layer to the debate surrounding leadership, expectations, and accountability within the Black Stars setup.
