Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has received a delegation from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, MOFI, and Mota-Engil Nigeria ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kano Light Rail Project.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.

The statement said the delegation, led by Dr Armstrong Takang of MOFI and Kola Karim, Chairman of Mota-Engil Nigeria, met with the governor in Abuja.

It said the delegation briefed the governor on preparations for the commencement of the project.

According to the statement, the Kano Light Rail Project, approved by President Bola Tinubu at a contract sum of N1.05 trillion, is expected to transform urban transportation in the state, improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities.

The governor expressed the commitment of the Kano State Government to work with the Federal Government and contractors to ensure successful execution of the project.

Mr Yusuf described the initiative as a strategic investment that would strengthen Kano’s position as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria while providing residents with a modern, safe and efficient mass transit system.

He appreciated President Tinubu for approving the project and commended Rep. Abubakar Bichi, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, for providing legislative support towards its implementation.
