Governor Fubara Sends Message to Amaechi Following Mother’s Death

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended his condolences to former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.

Dame Amaechi died at the age of 89, a development that has drawn tributes from political leaders, associates and well-wishers across the country.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of the government and people of Rivers State, Fubara described the passing of the matriarch as a profound loss not only to the Amaechi family but also to the Catholic community, the people of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area and Rivers State as a whole.

The governor’s message was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi.

Fubara acknowledged the pain associated with losing a mother, describing it as one of life’s most difficult experiences. He, however, urged Amaechi and his family to draw strength from the exemplary life Dame Amaechi lived and the enduring legacy she left behind.

According to the governor, the deceased played a significant role in shaping the values and character of her children while positively influencing members of her community through a life of service, faith and compassion.

He prayed that God would comfort the bereaved family during the difficult period and grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.

“The loss of a mother is always deeply painful, but the family should take solace in the good life Mama lived and the legacies she left behind,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

Fubara also acknowledged the vital role the late Dame Amaechi played in nurturing a family that has contributed significantly to the development of Rivers State and the nation.

The death of Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi has continued to attract condolences from across the political leaders.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier expressed sympathy with the former governor, describing the late matriarch as a woman of faith and virtue whose life was marked by devotion to family and service to humanity. The President prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant the Amaechi family the strength to bear the loss.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi also sent a condolence message to Amaechi, urging him and members of the family to find comfort in the remarkable life she lived and the values she instilled in those around her.

Amaechi served as Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 before becoming Minister of Transportation under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections, making the death of his mother a deeply personal loss at a time of heightened political engagement.

As condolences continue to pour in from political leaders, friends and associates, the Amaechi family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days.
