Kano Assembly, KSCHMA partner on healthcare financing reforms

The Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) have strengthened their collaboration on healthcare financing reforms with the convening of a one-day technical stakeholders’ workshop aimed at improving the state’s contributory healthcare scheme.

The workshop, held in Kaduna on Saturday, brought together lawmakers, senior government officials, organised labour, healthcare professionals and technical experts to review proposed reforms designed to strengthen the implementation of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme.

Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Zakariyya Alhassan Ishaq, presided over the workshop.

Declaring the event open, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting legislative reforms that would enhance healthcare financing, improve accountability and ensure quality healthcare services for residents of the state.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. Aminu Bashir, and the Head of Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, reiterated the state government’s commitment to reforms that would promote efficiency, transparency and sustainability in the health sector.

According to the organisers, the workshop marks another milestone in the collaborative efforts of the executive and legislative arms of government to strengthen the legal and operational framework guiding the state’s contributory healthcare scheme.

The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, thanked the Kano State House of Assembly, stakeholders and development partners for their continued support.

She expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the workshop would strengthen healthcare financing and expand access to quality healthcare services across Kano State.

The agency said the initiative aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Kano First Agenda, which seeks to provide accessible, affordable and sustainable healthcare services to all residents of the state.
