Gunmen kill vigilante in fresh attack on Plateau community

Unknown gunmen shot and killed a 43-year-old local vigilante member, Mangai Musa, during a Tuesday night attack on the Wereng-Rim community in the Riyom Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
A resident of the community disclosed that the armed men stormed the area and opened fire indiscriminately, fatally shooting Musa before fleeing into the night.
The sudden violence threw the community into a panic as residents fled for safety.
The Berom Youth Moulders- Association (BYM) also confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rwang Tengwong.
According to the association, the circumstances surrounding the attack were still being investigated, adding that the incident was another in a series of attacks targeting innocent residents of Riyom Local Government Area.
“The Berom Youth Moulders Association has received the report of another fatal attack on a Berom native in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
“Information available to the association indicates that Mr Mangai Musa, 43, from Wereng-Rim community, was shot dead on the night of Tuesday, July 14, 2026.”
Efforts to obtain comments from the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful.
