Incest cult parent's chilling 4 words after inbred children rescued from 'hell'

An incest cult family with 38 related members were found living in squalor. Some children were severely disabled due to inbreeding, to the point that some in the family could not talk or see. The initial incest was carried out by two great-great-grandparents in an isolated farming community. The family eventually came to light after evading detection for years and were found living in “deplorable” conditions.

The children were victims of severe abuse and were not able to communicate verbally. Some children were placed with foster families – their caregivers reported concerning sexualised behaviour. One of the parents posted to Facebook with a chilling four-word caption reading “Love Makes a Family,” reports the New Zealand Herald. The family started with June and Tim’s 1966 marriage in New Zealand before moving to Australia. The pair had seven children, with Martha being the youngest.

All children in the group suffered extensive sexual abuse from siblings, cousins, fathers, an uncle, and a grandfather, across four generations.

The Colt family initially drew official attention in June 2010.

In 2010, social services finally accessed the improvised camp where the family lived.

The area where the family lived was devoid of basic facilities such as running water and toilets.

The children could not comb their hair, they did not know how to use toilet paper, and they could not brush their teeth.

Multiple children had physical abnormalities, including misaligned eyes, low-set ears, and appearances indicating they were decades older than their actual age.

Only one child was determined not to have been fathered by a blood relative. All other children were the products of incest.

Despite genetic testing establishing otherwise, Betty, Martha, and Raylene all continue to deny that their children are the result of incest.

Three of the girls stated their uncle, Charlie Colt, who lived on the property when the children were removed, was also their father.

The family cooperated with a social services request in 2012 to improve their living conditions.

But, by July, authorities were compelled to remove 12 children — all cousins ranging in age from five to 15 — after it was determined they faced a significant risk of harm if they remained on the property.

Children placed in care will remain under state supervision until they turn 18.

Martha, who was known to share a “marital bed” with her brother Charlie, had five children with him.

Of the 80 original charges brought against eight Colt family members — which included incest, child sexual abuse, indecency against a child, and perjury — numerous charges were dropped.

Charlie Colt, who originally faced 27 charges, was cleared of two counts and exonerated, with the remaining charges later withdrawn.

His brother Roderick, however, was found guilty of raping his niece and half-sister Petra.

During proceedings, it was revealed Petra was actually his half-sister, having been born to Roderick’s sister Betty and their father Tim.

Although all eight family members were held in custody following their 2018 arrest, only four have been sentenced to prison time, reports Express US.

Martha, alongside her older sisters Betty and Rhonda, and Betty’s daughter Raylene, were charged with providing false information about the paternity of their children.

In a 2018 Facebook post, Betty Colt published a photo of herself with two female relatives, captioned “Love Makes a Family”.

Rhonda was sentenced to a 14-month intensive corrections order (ICO) for perjury, which ended in 2021.

Raylene was similarly given a 16-month ICO for perjury, which also concluded in 2021.

Betty was convicted on four counts of perjury, one count of lying under oath, and one count of perverting the course of justice, receiving a 14-month jail sentence.

Her maximum sentence of two years and four months is set to expire in August.

Martha pleaded guilty to five counts of perjury and one count of making a false statement under oath.

Betty is now thought to live in New South Wales with one of her sons who is now aged in his 20s.
