‘It Is Only by God’s Grace I’m Alive’ — Daniel Igali Offers Thanksgiving After Major Surgery

YENAGOA, BAYELSA – It was an atmosphere of gratitude, worship, and celebration on Sunday as the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development and Olympic gold medalist, Champion Hon. Daniel Igali (Oly), led family members, friends, government officials, political associates, and well-wishers in a special thanksgiving service at Calvary Grace Ministries, Yenagoa, following his successful recovery from a major surgical operation.
The service, which drew a large congregation, was a heartfelt expression of appreciation to God for preserving the life of the celebrated wrestler and sports administrator after what he described as a delicate and life-threatening medical procedure.
Speaking during an emotional testimony before the congregation, Igali recounted his recent health ordeal, describing it as one of the most trying moments of his life. He said his survival and full recovery were nothing short of divine intervention.
“It is only by the grace of God that I am alive, healthy, and able to stand before you today to celebrate life,” he declared, attributing his healing entirely to God’s mercy and faithfulness.
The Sports Commissioner also expressed profound appreciation to everyone who stood by him throughout the challenging period with prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support. He noted that the overwhelming love shown by family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers strengthened him during his recovery.
The thanksgiving service was attended by management and staff of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development, led by the Permanent Secretary, who joined their Commissioner in praising God for His faithfulness. Their presence underscored the unity and solidarity within the ministry.
Also present were notable political leaders and associates, including the Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Obolo Bubou, Paul Eris, Onoriode Kevin Akpe, Chief Hon. Nigeria Kia Ebidoughebofa, and other distinguished guests who gathered to celebrate God’s goodness in Igali’s life.
The service featured inspiring worship sessions, thanksgiving songs, fervent prayers, and exhortations centred on God’s healing power and unfailing mercy. Worshippers joined the Commissioner in offering praises for what many described as a remarkable testimony of divine preservation.
For many in attendance, the event was more than a thanksgiving service—it was a celebration of faith, resilience, and the triumph of hope over adversity.
Champion Daniel Igali’s journey from the operating theatre to the altar of thanksgiving serves as a powerful reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, faith in God can inspire strength, healing, and renewed purpose. His testimony resonated deeply with the congregation, reinforcing the belief that every victory is a reason to give thanks and every testimony is an opportunity to glorify God.
