‘Asleep at the wheel!’ Chris Hayes aghast at Trump’s apathy as war casualties pile up

President Donald Trump’s lack of care or attention to his Iran war, or the U.S. soldiers dying from it, left MS NOW’s Chris Hayes stunned on Monday evening.
So far, Trump’s most significant acknowledgment of the deaths was to make threatening statements against Iran — statements that, if reporting is correct, he won’t even be able to deliver on, said Hayes.
“The Washington Post reporting that, according to a single U.S. official, granted anonymity, quote, ‘We do not have enough munitions to safely sustain operations,’ and I don’t think the White House is aware of that,” said Hayes. “Meanwhile, over the past several months, thousands of people, thousands of people, are dead across both Iran and Lebanon, and in Israel, including civilians. They are apparently not a consideration at all for this White House, which, lest we forget, bombed a girls’ elementary school as one of the war’s first acts.”
All of this is going on, he noted, as the Houthi extremists in Yemen, a known proxy of Iran, are threatening to shut down yet another critical oil shipping lane, making the energy crisis worse.
“Here at home, the second order affects the war returning fast because oil is not moving through the Strait of Hormuz,” said Hayes. “Gas prices are creeping back up. National average back over four bucks a gallon, as our strategic reserves here in the U.S. are down to their lowest levels since the Reagan administration” — a dire situation since the reserve was keeping U.S. oil prices from spiking to truly catastrophic levels.
As all of this is going on, said Hayes, Trump is “asleep at the wheel” — except when he’s “plotting and ranting about sabotaging our free and fair elections so that he can rig it for the Republican Party, or alternately publicly obsessing over things like the font choice and the tiles for all his little redecorating projects.”
The president, concluded Hayes, “transparently does not care and can’t even bother to pretend to anymore. That’s the reality. The only reason he even seemingly bothered to comment on those deceased soldiers is that a little-watched news outlet had to call him up and force him to address it.”
