Ghana’s national team goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has arrived back in Accra following the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, receiving a warm and emotional welcome from his mother and family members at the Kotoka International Airport.

Footage online shows Ati Zigi embracing his mother, dressed in gold in front of the airport’s iconic “Akwaaba” welcome signage, with flowers presented and family members including a young child gathered to greet him on his return.

The touching homecoming stands in contrast to the largely muted reception that greeted the broader Black Stars squad upon their return, and has been warmly received on social media, with many Ghanaians praising the goalkeeper for his performances and professionalism throughout the tournament.

Ati Zigi was one of the standout performers in Ghana’s World Cup campaign, with the Black Stars finishing third in Group H before being eliminated by Colombia in the Round of 16.
