President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s football authorities to convince Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to remain in charge of the national team on a permanent basis.
The President believes keeping the Portuguese coach will help Ghana build a strong team capable of winning major international trophies.
Speaking on Friday during an inspection tour of the Ho Sports Stadium, President Mahama said maintaining tactical stability is important for developing a successful team.
He said Queiroz has created a strong foundation that should be maintained ahead of future qualification campaigns.
“I’m sure that if we keep this team, and we persuade the coach Carlos Queiroz to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and the next World Cup, we’ll have a team that can claim the championship in either of those two competitions,” Mahama stated.
The President’s comments come as there is ongoing public discussion about the future of the Black Stars coach.
Ghana entered the 2026 World Cup with low expectations but advanced to the newly introduced Round of 32 stage under Queiroz.
The Black Stars started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama before drawing 0-0 with England, continuing their strong record in second group matches at the World Cup.
After reaching the knockout stage, Ghana lost narrowly to Croatia in their final group match before being eliminated by Colombia in the Round of 32.
