Man, 23, Arraigned For Alleged Theft Of N10m Toyota Tundra In Lagos 

A 23-year-old man, Oluwakunmi Damilola, was on Friday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja over allegations of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, and theft of a Toyota Tundra valued at N10 million.

The defendant was brought before the court on a three-count charge by the Commissioner of Police. The charge sheet was marked NOMIK/B/33/2026.

According to the prosecution, the offences were allegedly committed on the 17th day of May, 2026, at about 8:15pm at No. 51, Ibijoke Street, Oregun, Ikeja, within the Lagos Magisterial District.

In Count One, the prosecution alleged that Oluwakunmi Damilola and others at large conspired among themselves to commit an offence. The act is punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In Count Two, the defendant was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace at the same location and time. The prosecution said the conduct contravened Section 165 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count Three bordered on theft. The prosecution alleged that the defendant and others at large stole a white Toyota Tundra with registration number LSD 990 DH. The vehicle was said to be valued at Ten Million Naira and the property of one Oghilabu Gregory of Lagos State. The offence is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge sheet indicated that the case was handled by CSP Shokunbi Toyosi of the Nigeria Police Force. The prosecutor listed as PC Solomon Blessing, who is attached to Alausa Division.

In court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to present evidence and witnesses in support of the case.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail with two sureties. The Magistrate ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned for mention. The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

Legal experts note that conspiracy, breach of peace, and stealing are common charges filed by the Police in cases involving alleged group crimes and property theft. The alleged theft of a high-value vehicle has also drawn attention to the need for increased security and surveillance in residential areas of Lagos.
